Transparent PNG Output
Detailed Layers returns each detected element as its own layer on a transparent background.
Open the layered result in Agent Workspace to clean up elements, create visual variations, or continue working from the same project.
Upload a finished PNG and let AI attempt to separate recognizable characters, objects, and backgrounds into new raster layers. Export a layered PSD for editing in Photoshop. Review the generation cost shown in the workspace before processing. Inspect generated layers before exporting.
Transparency and layers are different
Transparency controls which pixels are visible. It does not give characters, stickers, text, or objects inside the image separate Photoshop layers.
Use PNG to Layered PSD when you need more control over the elements inside the image, not only a different file extension.
See how layer separation works
This real illustration example shows a finished PNG-style composition alongside several of its generated visual layers. It demonstrates general image separation for artwork, not a PNG-only test.
The finished scene combines characters, furniture, and room details in one image.

These selected transparent raster assets come from a real illustration-separation example. Layer results from your PNG may differ.

The illustration output contains generated raster assets that can be reviewed and used as a starting point for continued editing.
This is a general illustration layer-separation example, not a PNG-specific benchmark or a verified PSD export from this page. The objects and grouping may differ from your image.
Separate visual elements into individual layers while reconstructing the background hidden behind them.

Final Layers
Background removers create a transparent cutout. ImageToLayers also reconstructs the area hidden behind the subject, giving you complete assets for editing and composition.
Most images are processed in 60–120 seconds.
Editable Photoshop layers
When visual elements are successfully separated, the generated PSD can give you more flexibility than a single flattened PNG.
Create a new editable starting point without manually cutting around every recognizable element first.
Small, overlapping, or visually connected elements may remain grouped. Review the output before using it in finished work.
The problem with flattened PNG artwork
You may have an illustration you finished last month, a client graphic, or an image generated with AI. The PNG looks complete, but the original editable project is unavailable.
Moving a character, resizing a product, hiding a decoration, or editing the background can mean selecting pixels and rebuilding details by hand. AI-assisted layer generation can attempt to create a new editable structure from the visible artwork.
Transparency versus layers
A transparent PNG is useful for placing artwork over another image. But transparency only describes pixel opacity; it does not make each visible object independently editable.
If three cartoon characters are combined in one raster image, you can move the whole PNG together. Layer separation attempts to identify those characters and create new image layers where possible.
For illustrators
A finished illustration may combine characters, decorative objects, and a detailed scene. If it was exported as a flat PNG, AI can attempt to extract recognizable components into new raster layers.
Use the result as a more flexible starting point for revisions or alternate compositions. Generated layers are not the original brush strokes or drawing-app history.
For transparent graphics
A transparent canvas can contain several stickers, icons, or decorative illustrations that are still merged into the same image. Try AI-assisted separation when you want to rearrange recognizable designs individually.
Tiny, overlapping, or closely connected objects may remain grouped. The workflow does not automatically turn text or icons into editable vector paths.
AI artwork editing
Most generated images are delivered as flattened raster files. If you like the scene but want to adjust one object, try separating its recognizable visual components instead of regenerating the entire image.
AI separation may change details and does not guarantee pixel-identical reconstruction of every object or hidden region.
Edit elements independently
When recognizable objects are successfully extracted into separate layers, you can move, resize, hide, reorder, or adjust those raster elements in a compatible editor.
Not every object is guaranteed to become an independent layer. Overlapping subjects and ambiguous boundaries may need manual cleanup.
Background reconstruction
The visible PNG does not contain the pixels that were hidden behind an object. The workflow can attempt to generate plausible background content in some covered regions so the subject is easier to reposition.
Reconstructed regions are estimates and may invent details, especially when a large or complex area was hidden. Review them and refine the result before delivery.
Photoshop workflow
The exported PSD is a new working document, not the original source project. Inspect its layer structure, transparency, edges, and reconstructed areas, then refine masks or adjust the composition in Photoshop or a compatible editor.
Add native typography, adjustment layers, and other effects yourself. AI can assist with the initial layer preparation; you make the final creative decisions.
Understand the output
A layered PSD can provide useful editing control, but ImageToLayers generates raster image elements based on visible content. It does not recover the original design objects or Photoshop history.
Better starting images
Images with recognizable subjects and distinct boundaries are often easier to review. High resolution can help when inspecting edges, but it does not guarantee better separation or restore missing detail.
Choose your workflow
Choose this page when your source artwork is a PNG and you want new, independently editable raster layers. The same workspace also accepts other supported image formats.

A standard PNG stores raster image data, not a native Photoshop layer structure. AI can attempt to create a new set of raster layers from visible PNG content and export them in a PSD.
Yes. The workflow attempts to identify recognizable subjects, objects, and background regions and prepare them as independent raster image layers. The result depends on the input image.
Not necessarily. PNG transparency controls pixel opacity, but a transparent PNG can still be one flattened raster image. Objects within it are not automatically separate Photoshop layers.
You can try. AI may isolate recognizable objects into separate layers, but small, overlapping, or closely connected elements may remain grouped.
Yes. Illustrations with recognizable characters, objects, and scenery can be used as input. Results depend on the artwork's complexity and how clearly elements can be distinguished.
Yes. Upload suitable AI-generated PNG artwork and attempt to create new raster layers for further editing in Photoshop. Some details may change during separation.
Not automatically. Text visible in the PNG may remain part of a raster image layer. Recreate native Photoshop typography separately if you need editable text.
PNG is a lossless image format, but AI layer generation can change boundaries, textures, or other details. PSD export does not guarantee pixel-perfect preservation.
Generated layers can include transparent raster areas. Their edges and transparency may differ from the original PNG, so review them before final use.
When a character is successfully separated into its own layer, you can move, hide, resize, or modify it independently. Overlapping characters may remain grouped.
You can try artwork containing multiple recognizable sticker designs. The model may separate individual designs, but some can remain grouped or need manual cleanup.
It can attempt to estimate some hidden background regions using surrounding image content. These generated areas are not recovered original pixels and should be reviewed.
The number depends on the source image and selected processing options. A fixed number of independent elements is not guaranteed.
Yes. The supported layered PSD output is intended for continued editing in Photoshop and compatible image editors.
No. A flattened PNG does not contain its original Photoshop layer history. AI generates a new image-layer structure based on visible content.
