Separate an Image Into
Layers for Animation

Turn a flat illustration, game scene, photo, or AI artwork into foreground, subject, prop, and reconstructed background layers — animation-ready assets for parallax, camera moves, and motion graphics.

Scene Complexity

Recommended for most scenes

Start simple. Add more layers only when your scene needs independent depth or separately moving objects.

From One Image to Editable Layers

One flat scene is split into stacked depth layers — a reconstructed background at the base, then midground, subject, and foreground — each ready to animate on its own.

Hair · Face · Eyes · Mouth · Clothing · Limbs · Accessories

Separate Character Parts

Just want a character image turned straight into a motion video — no compositing? Use the AI Character Animation Generator

Who Uses Animator Prep

2.5D Parallax Animation

Move foreground, subject, midground, and background at different speeds to create cinematic depth and camera push effects.

AI Art You Want to Animate

You generated a great Midjourney, GPT Image, or Flux picture but only have one flat PNG. Split it into scene layers you can move in a video workflow.

Motion Graphics

Separate a poster or campaign visual into elements you can keyframe individually — no rebuilding the composition from scratch.

Game & Visual Novel Scenes

Prepare foreground foliage, characters, props, and backgrounds independently for cutscenes, camera moves, and environmental motion.

What You Get

Every run produces a complete set of animation-ready files.

1

Transparent PNG Layers

Each visual element on its own transparent layer — ready to move, scale, or animate independently.

2

Reconstructed Background

A clean background plate with AI-estimated content behind removed subjects — no holes when layers move.

3

Layered PSD

Open in Photoshop, After Effects, or any compatible editor with all layers intact and named.

4

Independent Elements

Foreground, subject, and supporting objects separated so each can be keyframed or rigged on its own timeline.

5

Animation-Ready Assets

Files sized and formatted for parallax, camera push-ins, cutout animation, and motion graphics workflows.

How Animator Prep Works

01

Upload a Scene

Upload an illustration, product visual, game scene, or photo with a subject you want to animate independently.

02

Separate Visual Layers

AI identifies the subject and background, producing transparent PNG layers for each.

03

Reconstruct Hidden Areas

AI estimates and fills in the background areas that were hidden behind the subject — so no holes appear when layers move.

04

Export for Animation

Download transparent PNG layers or a layered PSD ready for After Effects, Blender, or any motion graphics tool.

Accuracy and Limitations

Best results come from scenes with clearly separated subjects and visible depth.

Complex occlusions, fine hair edges, or heavily overlapping objects may require manual touch-up after export.

Animator Prep does not separate internal character parts. For hair, face, clothing, and limbs, continue with Character into Layers.

Only need two layers?

Just the subject and the background? Try Background Splitter

When a photo only has one subject in front of a background, Background Splitter gives you a transparent foreground and a reconstructed background in one step, without setting up a full multi-object layer split.

Frequently Asked Questions

What layers does Animator Prep create?
Animator Prep attempts to separate a flat image into scene-level layers such as foreground details, the main subject or complete character, supporting objects, midground elements, and a reconstructed background. The exact number and type of layers depend on the visible composition and the selected layer detail.
Can I use the result for parallax animation?
Yes. The separated foreground, subject, midground, and background layers can be moved at different speeds to create simple parallax, camera push-ins, pans, and depth effects. The tool prepares the visual assets but does not automatically create the final animation.
Does Animator Prep separate hair, face, clothing, and limbs?
Not by default. Animator Prep focuses on scene-level separation, such as the complete character, props, foreground, and background. For hair, face, eyes, mouth, clothing, limbs, and accessories, use Character into Layers after extracting the complete character from the scene.
Can it reconstruct the background behind a character or object?
Yes. AI may generate a visually plausible clean background for areas that were previously covered by the subject. However, it cannot recover the original unseen pixels. Reconstructed areas are AI estimates and should be reviewed before final production use.
What kinds of images work best?
The best results usually come from high-resolution images with clear subjects and object boundaries, visible separation between foreground and background, limited motion blur, moderate overlap between elements, and enough visible background around the main subject. Glass, smoke, fine hair, reflections, and heavily overlapping objects may require additional cleanup.
Can I export the result as PNG layers or a PSD?
Yes. You can export the separated visual elements as transparent PNG layers or download the complete composition as a layered PSD for continued work in Photoshop, After Effects, or another compatible editor. The PSD contains raster layers, not the image's original source layers.
Does this create a finished animation?
No. Animator Prep creates animation-ready visual layers. You still need an animation or compositing application to add keyframes, camera motion, rigging, transitions, and final timing. The generated assets can be used as a starting point in tools such as After Effects, Photoshop, Blender, or other motion software.
How is this different from the AI Character Animation Generator?
Animator Prep prepares assets: it splits one flat image into separate scene layers (PNG plus a layered PSD) that you animate yourself in After Effects, Blender, or a similar tool. The AI Character Animation Generator works the other way around — it takes a character image and outputs a finished motion video, such as idle, wave, or victory, with no compositing work. Use Animator Prep for scene parallax and motion graphics; use the Character Animation Generator when you want a ready-to-share clip.
Can I use Animator Prep for character animation?
Yes, when you need to separate the complete character from the surrounding scene for camera motion, parallax, or simple cutout animation. For detailed character rigging, first extract the complete character with Animator Prep, then send that character layer to Character into Layers for a finer body-part breakdown.
How many credits does Animator Prep use?
Animator Prep uses 30 credits per run. Failed processing jobs are refunded according to the platform's credit policy.
