Convert an Image into a Layered PSD
Upload a flat JPG, PNG, or WebP image and let AI separate its major subjects, objects, foreground details, and background into individual raster layers. Review the generated layers, adjust their visibility and order, then download a layered PSD for further editing in Photoshop or another compatible editor.
The exported PSD contains AI-generated raster layers. It does not recover the image's original Photoshop layers, fonts, vector paths, smart objects, or design history.

More Than Background Removal
Background removers create a transparent cutout. ImageToLayers also reconstructs the area hidden behind the subject, giving you complete assets for editing and composition.
Most images are processed in 60–120 seconds.
The real difference
Not Just a Format Converter
A basic file converter places your complete image inside a PSD as one flat layer. ImageToLayers attempts to create a more useful PSD structure by separating major visual elements into independently manageable raster layers.
Basic PSD Conversion
- One flat image layer
- No subject separation
- No completed background
- Limited editing control
AI Layered PSD
- Multiple AI-generated raster layers
- Separate major subjects and objects
- Reconstructed background where possible
- Move, hide, reorder, mask, or transform individual layers

What "Editable" Means Here
What Can Be Edited?
Generated layers can be hidden, moved, reordered, transformed, masked, recolored, and adjusted independently.
What Is Not Recovered?
Native Text
Visible text is not guaranteed to become an editable Photoshop text layer with the original font and styling.
Vector Shapes
Objects remain raster images. They are not converted into SVG paths, Illustrator objects, or Photoshop vector shapes.
Smart Objects and Effects
The PSD does not recover the original smart objects, adjustment layers, masks, blend settings, or layer effects.
Original Hidden Pixels
AI cannot recover pixels that were never visible. Content behind subjects is estimated and should be reviewed before production use.

Only need two layers?
Just the subject and the background? Try Background Splitter
When a photo only has one subject in front of a background, Background Splitter gives you a transparent foreground and a reconstructed background in one step, without setting up a full multi-object layer split.

Original photo
The source image with a single subject and background.

Transparent foreground
The subject isolated as a clean transparent PNG.

Reconstructed background
The scene behind the subject, rebuilt and reusable on its own.

Image to PSD FAQ
Does this simply change the file extension to PSD?
No. A basic converter normally places the complete image into one PSD layer. This tool attempts to separate major visual elements into multiple raster layers before creating the PSD.
Can I convert a JPG or PNG to a layered PSD?
Yes. Upload a JPG, PNG, or WebP image and the tool will attempt to create a new layered PSD from its visible elements.
Does it recover the original Photoshop layers?
No. It generates a new layer structure from the visible pixels in the flattened image. It cannot restore the original source document.
Will text become editable?
Not necessarily. Text may remain part of a raster layer and is not guaranteed to become native Photoshop typography.
Are the generated layers vector-based?
No. The separated elements are raster image layers rather than editable vector paths or shapes.
Can I move objects after downloading the PSD?
Yes. When an object has been successfully separated, its raster layer can be moved, hidden, reordered, transformed, masked, or adjusted independently.
Can hidden parts of the image be recovered?
AI may generate plausible content for hidden areas, but it cannot recover unseen original pixels. Generated regions should be reviewed before final use.
Does this replace Photoshop?
No. It automates the initial layer separation and PSD setup. Photoshop may still be needed for final edge cleanup, masks, typography, color adjustments, and composition work.
