Upload a still WebP and let AI attempt to separate recognizable subjects, products, graphics, and backgrounds into new raster layers. Export a layered PSD for editing in Photoshop. Review the generation cost shown in the workspace before processing. Inspect generated layers before exporting.
More than file conversion
A basic WebP to PSD conversion can leave the picture flattened on one raster layer. AI-assisted separation attempts to create a new structure from recognizable visual elements.
If you only need a different file format, ordinary conversion may be enough. Choose layer separation when you want to edit elements inside the WebP.
Before and after
This existing illustration example shows a finished image alongside selected generated visual layers. It demonstrates general image separation, not a WebP-specific test.
The completed scene combines its characters, furniture, and room details in one image.

These four transparent raster assets are selected from the existing illustration example. Results from your WebP may differ.

The selected art comes from a general illustration layer-separation workflow, not a verified WebP-to-PSD export from this page.
This Showcase reuses the same real illustration source, four layer assets, and layout as the Image to Layered PSD page. It is not a WebP-specific model test; layer count, grouping, boundaries, and accuracy vary by input and settings.

Final Layers
Background removers create a transparent cutout. ImageToLayers also reconstructs the area hidden behind the subject, giving you complete assets for editing and composition.
Most images are processed in 60–120 seconds.
Editable Photoshop layers
When visual elements are successfully separated, the generated PSD can give you more flexibility than one flattened WebP image.
Create a new editable starting point without manually cutting around every recognizable object first.
Overlapping objects, fine details, and ambiguous boundaries may need manual review. One layer per object is not guaranteed.
Web design workflows
You may have a product gallery image, website banner, landing-page illustration, or promotional graphic saved as WebP. The original layered design may no longer be available, and now one object or the composition needs to change.
AI layer separation can attempt to create new raster assets from recognizable parts of the WebP, giving you a starting point for another design revision. Only edit and reuse images you own or have permission to modify.
For ecommerce designers
A product image may already have the lighting and styling you want, while its layout does not fit a new promotion. The workflow can attempt to separate a recognizable product, supporting objects, and background into new image layers.
Use successfully separated elements to prepare alternate marketing layouts. Inspect edges and reconstructed regions before using the result in production.
Subject and background separation
A WebP may contain a person, product, illustrated character, or another prominent subject. AI can attempt to prepare recognizable subjects, supporting objects, foreground details, and backgrounds as separate raster assets.
Closely overlapping objects can remain grouped, and small details may need correction. The workflow does not guarantee one layer for every visible object.
Background reconstruction
The original image does not contain pixels that were hidden behind a product or person. AI can attempt to generate plausible content for some covered areas using visible surroundings, which may help when repositioning a subject.
Reconstructed backgrounds are estimates, not recovered original pixels. They can introduce differences and should be reviewed before final use.
Transparency and layers
WebP supports transparency, which is useful for product cutouts, icons, illustrations, and web graphics. A transparent WebP can still combine several visible objects in one raster image.
Transparency controls pixel visibility. Independent PSD layers let you edit successfully separated visual elements separately. Generated transparent edges may differ from the source, especially around fine outlines and translucent areas.
For illustrators
If a digital illustration was exported as WebP, its original drawing layers may no longer be available. AI can attempt to separate recognizable characters, props, and scenery from the visible illustration.
Generated raster layers are not the original painting strokes, paths, masks, or source document structure. Use them as a starting point for further editing.
Source image quality
WebP supports lossy and lossless compression. Strong lossy compression can soften details or introduce artifacts that make object boundaries harder to inspect. A high-quality source gives the model more visible detail to work with.
Lossless WebP preserves decoded pixel values, but it can still be a flattened image without independent object layers. Converting a compressed WebP to PSD does not restore detail discarded earlier.
Still images, not animation timelines
This workflow prepares image layers from a still image. It does not promise to extract animated WebP frames into a Photoshop timeline, preserve frame timing, or reconstruct motion.
For an animated WebP, export the still frame you want to edit to a supported image format first.
Understand the output
The exported PSD contains a new raster-layer interpretation of visible WebP content. Successfully separated elements can be moved, hidden, resized, reordered, masked, or adjusted in compatible software.
The workflow does not automatically restore native Photoshop text, original fonts, vector paths, Smart Objects, adjustment layers, masks, blending settings, or document history. Content that was never visible cannot be recovered as original pixels.
Better results
A clear product or subject with distinct boundaries is often easier to inspect than a crowded scene with overlapping objects. Start with the best-quality WebP you can access, then review the generated layers before exporting.

Yes. AI-assisted separation can attempt to create several raster layers from recognizable subjects, objects, and background regions in a WebP image.
Yes. A regular format converter generally retains the original picture as a single raster layer. ImageToLayers attempts to separate recognizable elements and generate a new editable layer structure.
Compatible Photoshop versions can open WebP images, but simply opening one does not generate independent layers for the objects inside it. This workflow attempts to create those layers using AI.
The supported PSD export is designed to contain newly generated raster image layers. Successfully separated elements can be edited independently, but they are not the original source layers.
Yes. Suitable transparent WebP images can be used as inputs. AI can attempt to separate recognizable objects, though transparent boundaries may need review.
No. Transparency is not the same as Photoshop layers. A transparent WebP can contain several objects merged into one raster image.
AI can attempt to isolate a recognizable product or subject into an independent raster layer and prepare a separate background. Results depend on the image.
Yes, when an object has been successfully separated into its own layer. You can then move, resize, hide, or adjust it in a compatible editor.
It can attempt to generate plausible content in some covered regions. These areas are estimates, not recovered original pixels.
The workflow is intended for still-image layer separation, not frame-by-frame animation conversion. Export the frame you want to edit as a still image first.
No animation-frame preservation or Photoshop timeline conversion is promised. The workflow separates visual elements from a still image.
You can use suitable WebP images you own or have permission to modify. Make sure your intended use respects the source image's rights.
Yes, although heavy lossy compression can reduce the detail available for separation. A higher-quality source is generally preferable.
Not automatically. PSD export does not recover information lost through compression, and AI layer generation can change edges, textures, or reconstructed areas.
Not automatically. Text inside the source WebP may remain rasterized. Recreate native Photoshop text separately if you need precise typography editing.
They are raster image layers. This workflow does not automatically convert WebP artwork into editable SVG paths, Illustrator shapes, or native vector objects.
The number depends on the input image and selected processing options. A specific number of independently editable objects is not guaranteed.

No original Photoshop project required. Review the generation cost before processing.
The PSD contains newly generated raster layers. It does not recover original Photoshop text, fonts, vectors, Smart Objects, or design history.
