AI Layer Extraction

Extract Layers From an Image

Upload a flattened JPG, PNG, or WebP image and let AI recover its major subjects, objects, and background regions as independently editable layers. Review the extracted layers, then export transparent PNG files, a ZIP package, or a layered PSD for further editing.

The extracted layers are newly generated from the visible pixels in your source image. They are not the original design file's layers, and areas hidden behind subjects may be estimated by AI.

More Than Background Removal

Background removers create a transparent cutout. ImageToLayers also reconstructs the area hidden behind the subject, giving you complete assets for editing and composition.

Most images are processed in 60–120 seconds.

What you recover

Recover Editable Parts From One Flattened Image

Instead of one locked image, get independent layers that can be reviewed, adjusted, and exported for continued editing.

Main Subject

The primary person, product, or object recovered as an independent transparent layer.

Supporting Objects

Secondary objects, props, or other visually distinct elements recovered when their boundaries are clear.

Completed Background

A reusable background layer with AI-estimated content added where subjects previously covered the scene.

How to Extract Layers From an Image

01

Upload a flattened image

Upload a JPG, PNG, or WebP image that contains the visual parts you want to recover.
02

AI recovers the layers

The model attempts to separate the image into subjects, objects, and background regions.
03

Review the extracted layers

Check edges, transparency, and any areas the AI generated behind previously hidden subjects.
04

Export for editing

Download transparent PNG layers in a ZIP package, or export a layered PSD for further editing.

Only need two layers?

Just the subject and the background? Try Background Splitter

When a photo only has one subject in front of a background, Background Splitter gives you a transparent foreground and a reconstructed background in one step, without setting up a full multi-object layer split.

Transparent foreground

Transparent foreground

Reconstructed background

Reconstructed background

The scene behind the subject, rebuilt and reusable on its own.

Extract Layers From Image FAQ

What does it mean to extract layers from an image?

It means recovering the major visual parts of a flattened image — such as the subject, supporting objects, and background — as independently editable layers rather than one locked file.

Are these the original design file's layers?

No. The layers are newly generated by AI from the visible pixels in the source image. They are not the original Photoshop, Illustrator, or design-source layers.

Can I export a layered PSD?

Yes. You can export a layered PSD on supported plans, or download the transparent PNG layers in a ZIP package.

Can it recover content hidden behind the subject?

AI may generate plausible content for hidden areas, but it cannot recover pixels that were never visible in the source image. Review generated regions before production use.

Which images extract most reliably?

Images with a clear subject, strong edges, good contrast, and limited overlap between elements generally produce cleaner extracted layers.
